Behind the Curtain: April 2016

April 7, 2016 by Caroline 2 Comments

behind the curtain

I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine! As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading

After making my way through a handful of Kindle samples, I’ve currently landed on People Who Eat Darkness: The Fate of Lucie Blackman by Richard Lloyd Parry, a story about a British expat living in Japan as a call girl who winds up dead.

I bought it for only $3 and it’s much more interesting than depressing. I’m also listening to All the Light We Cannot See still.  To see what else I’m working on, check out my Goodreads Profile here.

Listening

I’ve recently been listening to good, old Southern music. The Music Issue of Oxford American a few months back came with a CD of the best Georgia music. I’ve been playing it on repeat. I also picked up a copy of the Bristol Sessions, which have been re-recorded by some of my favorite bluegrass artists.

In terms of podcasts, I’ve just started on the Gilmore Guys podcast. It’s rough around the edges in the first season, but I’m sure gets better with every passing episode. I’m a huge fan of the original show, so it was made for me.

Watching

I’m a self-admitted geek, so my favorite shows tend to be about fictional creatures or alternate realities. I’ve re-watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel from the beginning and now I’m starting back on The Walking Dead and True Blood. Are there any shows like this I should be watching?

Loving

Since I work from home, I practically live in pajama pants and workout clothes, even on days when I don’t work out. I got to try out new patterned leggings from Pins to Kill, a new company from my former home of Australia. So far I’ve worn them to my rowing class and to the store but am looking forward to bringing them on a trip this week.

Not only do they have some amazing geometric and fun prints, but you can also design your own by uploading photos and illustrations. Follow their Instagram page for some wanderlust and flexibility motivation! I’m also trying out the Origami Unicorn travel underwear organizer this week so stay tuned for more on that.

Working

This month has been chaotic, to say the least. Since I accepted a place on a trip that overlapped with about four due dates, I had to finish everything before I left.

I’ve just turned in my first round of articles for the Georgia issue of The Knot, new blog posts for Eagle Creek and Her Packing List, and an update of my guides for AFAR. I can only hope that this amount of work keeps up for the rest of the year! See what else I’m working on via my Contently profile.

Traveling

As I mentioned last week, April will be chaotic in terms of travel. I’ve just completed trips to the Dominican Republic and Arkansas (back-to-back) and leave in one week for another trip to South Carolina. After that, I’ll be headed to Miami for a day before a cruise back to the Dominican Republic. May will be just as busy, but stay tuned for more on that!

    Hi Caroline,

It’s nice to see that someone still watches Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. It’s embarrassing how many times I’ve watched both of those series. SO GOOD!

Good luck in the Dominican, both times, this month! :)

    Warmly,

    Maegan
