Behind the Curtain: July 2017

July 18, 2017 by Caroline Leave a Comment

behind the curtain
Fort Hays, South Dakota

I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine!

As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading

I finished reading Blackout and there were so many moments that hit close to home. It’s a great memoir about alcoholism. Now I’m working my way through The Beautiful and the Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald as well as The Art of Memoir by Mary Karr, which talks about how to craft a memoir that people want to read. To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here.

Listening

I just bought my very first record player, something that is long overdue. I found a deal online for a Victrola and bought with it my very first record, the best of Otis Redding. A few weeks later at a record store in Rapid City, South Dakota, I found Rilo Kiley Rkives, a two-disc collection of the band’s B-sides. And for my birthday, my sister gave me Ryan Adams Live at Carnegie Hall.

Watching

I have already watched all of Orange is the New Black‘s new season and was very pleased with it. I tried not to watch it all at once. I’ve heard good things about Glow, so that might be my next binge. And also Game of Thrones!

Loving

I’m trying a few new products lately, including Care/of vitamins and Moon Dust, a witchy brew of supplements that can be added to your morning coffee. Each type has its own benefits. I bought a mixed pack from Little Barn Apothecary here in Atlanta, which also sells products made sustainably and those for sensitive skin.

Traveling

Playa Marsella, Nicaragua

After 10 days out west in Wyoming and South Dakota, I spent a few days at home before leaving for two weeks in Nicaragua. I’ll be spending a week at a writing retreat and another exploring.

Working

I’m still working on my posts for Explore Georgia and recently had a piece published by Ravishly about my disordered eating habits. I’m also working on a book. See what else I’m working on via my Contently profile.
