What I Packed for Canada

December 11, 2018 by Caroline Leave a Comment

My family trip to Canada this summer sort of snuck up on me, booked months in advance, but a crazy summer kept me from preparing as much as I normally would have. I knew it would be cold in Banff, but I think I underestimated what the weather would be like.

This post contains affiliate links that can earn this website a small income. They will not cost you anything to use.

I was only gone for around six days, so I was able to re-wear items. I tried my best to pack light, bringing only a carry on backpack (my Outdoor Products Artemis 35L, reviewed on Her Packing List) . I’ve included Amazon affiliate links to the related products I packed, but they are items I actually use.

Clothing and Accessories

Two jackets at the Glacier

ExOfficio jacket– This longtime favorite jacket of mine is a great base layer that I’ve worn everywhere from here at home to the Austrian Alps. Keep in mind that it’s not waterproof, so it’s best to use to insulate.

Eddie Bauer jacket- I don’t know the specific model or style, but I purchased this jacket from an outlet mall that folds up into a zippable pocket.

Baseball hat– I bought this hat on Etsy from The Lion’s Drawer, a favorite local maker here in Atlanta. I was glad to have it to keep the sun out of my eyes on our day hikes.

Scarf- I threw this in at the last minute and was glad to have it. It’s a gauzy forest green one that I got for Christmas a few years back.

Nike Sneakers– I ended up wearing these pretty much the whole trip for hikes and jaunts around town.

Birkenstock rubber sandals– I love these shoes, especially when we went to the Upper Hot Springs. I was able to leave them on the side of the pool so I didn’t have to walk barefoot.

Prana Steph Jogger– I got this pair of pants right after my Peru trip, so this was my first chance to really test them out. I wore them the day we went to the glacier.

Under Armor leggings- I wish I’d bought two pairs of these at the outlet because I’ve worn them to death and they now have a few holes and the logo is worn off.

Swimsuit- I went with a two piece and only wore it once. It’s usually not warm enough to swim anyways.

Jeans- This high rise pair from the Gap outlet is my favorite. I wore them when we wandered around town.

Harry Potter kimono– I bought this to wear to Universal Orlando, but now it’s something I wear in my everyday life because it looks trendy and most people can’t tell it’s related to it!

Assorted tank tops and t-shirts- These towns, including Banff, are pretty casual, so I didn’t pack anything too nice.

Jean jacket- I love my secondhand Shoreditch jacket that I bring everywhere.

Undergarments- Need I explain?

Gear and Electronics

Rocking leggings on the flight to Calgary

Black Diamond folding trekking poles– I purchased these for Peru, but let my mom borrow them for one of our hikes.

Daypack– I put most of my essentials for the day in this bag so that we didn’t have to return to our rental. I ended up bringing a tote instead, but recommend this one.

Canon DSLR– Still shooting on a Canon going on 7 years!

Kindle Fire– It was good to be able to zone out with a good book during less interesting drives.

ETC

Binoculars are a good thing to bring too!

Water bottle

Passport

Random toiletries

Did I miss anything? What would you pack?
