Sazerac House, New Orleans

I’ve come to look forward to these monthly posts about what I’m into beyond travel because there’s so much more to my life than where I go, despite the fact that it’s something I love. It’s funny how many people respond with their obsessions or agree with mine!

As with last month, I’m sharing the things I’m obsessed with at the moment. Thanks for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

Reading

American Prison

I’m reading All the Single Ladies, which I bought a while ago. But I also just picked up a few books as research for stories I’m working on, including American Prison, a book about a man that goes undercover as a guard at a Louisiana prison.

To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).

Listening

This month has involved a lot of travel so I had lots of time for listening to podcasts. I tore through Chasing Cosby, 22 Hours, We Crashed, Hit Man, and Uncover: Satanic Panic. Any more I should try?

I also loved mentions on My Favorite Murder this month of Georgia murders of Leo Frank and Mary Phagan as well as the Corpsewood Murders.

Watching

I’ve mostly fallen off of my shows this month because of a crazy travel schedule but on my flight to Louisiana, I started The Trial of Christine Keeler, a British drama about the Profumo affair. I can’t wait to get into the rest of the scandalous event referenced in The Crown.

Loving

To be honest, this month has involved a lot of unexpected expenses, which stressed me out. I had a traumatic trip to the dentist where I was handed a bill for $400 followed by essentials needed for my home.

Working

Jekyll Island

I’ve been pitching like crazy this month and have some upcoming stories I’m really excited about. My pieces for Fodor’s came out, which were both fun to write.

I’m so thrilled that my class for the Decatur Writers Studio went well. I’d definitely be interested in doing others or possibly turning it into an online course.

I’ll also be a part of Bloghouse, a long-running travel blogger retreat, in Buffalo, New York this May. I’m excited to share my expertise from the traditional media side alongside some of my highly successful blogger friends.

A post shared by This Is My South (@thisismysouth)

I’m so behind working on this post because I’ve spent the last week traveling around Louisiana. I loved catching up with friends and networking, but I’m exhausted.

This coming weekend, I’ll be speaking at the Elegant Southern Style event at Graceland in Memphis, led by none other than Priscilla Presley. I’ll be talking Southern travel with my pal Kristin of Camels & Chocolate.

And from there, I have a short trip to South Carolina before a few weeks of much-needed rest. Afterward, I’ll be disconnecting for a while to work on something that I hope to have finished this year! The rest is TBD based on this coronavirus situation…
