Behind the Curtain: February 2024

February 13, 2024 by Caroline Leave a Comment

After feeling like a crazy person for a few months, finding it next to impossible to focus on any given task, I’ve upped my medication for the time being. Hopefully, this will be the solution I’m looking for to help me get all of the writing done!

In every monthly post, I like to share the articles I’m reading, the shows I’m watching, and the podcasts I’m listening to. They’ll remain free to read but there will continue to be affiliate links to recommended products to support site upkeep.

If you’re looking for a way to support my work, buy my book, read my articles, or sign up for my courses. Thanks again for following along! Be sure to share what you’re loving this month below!

This post contains affiliate links that can earn this website a small income. They will not cost you anything to use.

Reading

I’m still working my way through Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami which, if you haven’t read it, is certainly unusual. I also got my copy of One in a Millennial by Kate Kennedy, which I pre-ordered after years of listening to her podcast. And after browsing a favorite bookstore, I picked up Among the Bros by Max Marshall, which is actually about a drug ring run at my alma mater.

To see what else I’m reading, check out my Goodreads Profile here (which is also my author page!).

Listening

I barely remember the events of The Raven, when an NFL star was accused of being involved in a fatal stabbing in Atlanta. But I know all about the aftermath when the city cracked down on late-night bars and nightclubs. I came of drinking age in what’s considered the end of Atlanta’s time as a party destination.

Watching

Vanderpump Rules is back and while it’s been a slow start, I’m excited to see what happens. I’ve also ended my Netflix membership so I’m trying to decide how long until I need to sign up again to watch my favorite shows!

Loving

I joined my writer friends for the annual vision boarding day. It’s a great way to start the year, reset, and focus on what I want next. If you read my post about my writing goals, you’ll know that I want to put my attention on the story and the writing more than the outlet. I’m hoping that by doing that, the payment part will fall into place.

I’ve also had some killer food recently, both around Atlanta and in my travels. I picked up a $2 set at a thrift store and hosted my very first bingo night with my friends, visors included. This month, I also got my very first shipment from The Rounds, which delivers bulk goods locally. If you’re in Philadelphia, DC, Miami, or Atlanta, give it a try.

Working

Treehouse at Ruby Falls
Treehouse at Ruby Falls

This month has been about sending pitches and following up plus some assignments for existing clients. My first story since 2020 for Travel + Leisure came out about a new treehouse resort in Tennessee. I’m also working on some new stories for Lonely Planet, InsideHook, Plate, and Modern Farmer.

If you’d like to see more of my work, visit my professional website, CarolineEubanks.com, for more information. If you got a copy of my book, review it on Amazon or Goodreads. Or you can sign up for one of my online writing classes.

Traveling

Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres

At the beginning of January, I spent a week on the Georgia coast for a family wedding and loved my time catching up with relatives I hadn’t seen in many years. I also love that area and spent time driving around with my windows down and eating as much seafood as possible.

Last week, I traveled to Mexico for a real vacation, not for work. I spent a few days in Isla Mujeres, where I mostly hung out, read, and explored by golf cart. It would have been perfect except for high winds and an injury, but I still can’t complain!
