Packing for 3 Months in Asia

March 27, 2014 by Caroline Leave a Comment

This trip has been two years in the making, so of course I’ve gone over what to pack about a million times in my head during that time. I knew I wanted to get as close to going carry on only as possible, although it’s hard to manage when you’re flying long-haul carriers and regional budget carriers, as they all have different measurements.

Plus there’s the whole metric vs. Imperial issue. Then there’s the fact that I’m packing for so many different activities. I want to have clothes for going out with friends in Sydney, but will also be roughing it while camping in Kakadu National Park.

Likewise, I will spend a week volunteering (and probably shoveling poop) at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai one week and going to a wedding in Koh Samui shortly afterwards.

I’ve learned my lesson about packing since the last time I went to Australia. My packing list back then was mindless, as I had no idea how long I would be staying or what I would be doing. I packed a lot of grubby t-shirts I never ended up wearing and bought clothes I could wear out with friends and to work. I also brought a backpack much bigger than what I needed, even though I filled it to the brim back then.
